SO I think I am making some headway in my project. I just sent the risers to get chromed. I went with fourteen inch T bars. I had the bike all black but I decided to put red flames with a white pin stripe. I also decided to use old school flames which is only one over lap. Seems like the more modern bikes have scalloped flames or a whole bunch of overlaps. The old flame jobs had no overlaps at all, least that’s how I remember it. I am certain there are some haters out there that will remember it different.
I also went with forty spoke front and rear wheels. I like mags. There is no tube in them so they are easier to fix on the road, but I like the look of spokes. I had to use an old Thunderheader exhaust only cause money is running tight, I will order a new when funds allow it.
Only thing left to do is the wiring harness. I gotta say electrics is not my best thing, I am more of a mechanical guy. I leave the electrics to the electricians. Electrics will separate mechanics from a good one to a great one. It’s one thing to be able to put a bike together like a puzzle and another to be able to diagnose a broken motorcycle on the side of the road.
Everything else is good with me. Real busy, which is good. Better than not having anything to do at all.
As soon as I am done with the bike I will post a pic. Shouldn’t be too long. Painters always take their sweet time.
And by the way, an “Outlaw bike” to me is a bike that has been stripped down and made into exactly that. If you take a police special, and strip it down and make it your own, less the blinkers and siren, take off the police windshield and speedo, give it paint that you like and ride it with your Outlaw buddies then I would imagine it is an Outlaw bike. Least it aint an “Inlaw bike”.
I appreciate the support everybody but don’t trip on the haters. Until next time, I am as ever,
FAT BOB

Sometimes I think too many people miss the point of riding. I noticed your blog comments have all but stopped which is probably for the best. Most of the comments were fault finding or know it alls leaving opinions.
By Joseph on March 27th, 2009 at 6:06 pmI have been a biker for over 40 years from my Panama Red (hard tail old school chopped Triumph) days back in 68 to my Harley days of today and I can tell you this. When the sun starts to set and I fire up my old ass Harley and hit the evening wind all of those 40 years disappear and all my dreams I had as a young man come pouring back into my soul. Once again I’m twenty and the arthritus is gone from my hands. My heart medication is replaced by the beating pulse of my V Twin pacemaker and all my memories become real once more. All of the roads I have traveled, the rivers I have crossed and the stories of my life in the wind are here and now. They are here today in the saddle bags of my mind and I carry them everywhere I go. My time is getting shorter by the day but my memories are still alive and I’ll make even more memories before I fade. This is the true life of a biker, it’s not statistics or arguements, it’s the choice of freedom over all else. Tell your readers about the life not the machine. Try to descibe the adrenalin, the happiness, the thrill of being alive on the road. Find an old man like me and ask him about the brotherhood of a man and his Harley then tell everyone. Maybe someone else will tell you about biker life as well.
A biker at sunset
very cool all that needs be said later freedom
By freedom on March 27th, 2009 at 8:13 pmDon’t trip on the haters. True that. Everyone should know this is just a TV show. I just smile when I hear them bitching about it. To me, it’s just a TV show. Can’t wait to see the Popo special. Building a bike is like taking a journey inside my garage. I didn’t know exactly where I would end up, but I still arrived at my destination in style. I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything. Just like a good road trip.

Sounds Great Fat Bob, myself my 74 iron head project is slow but steady. Got the rolling chassie done and getting ready to start wiring her up. sounds like we have the same idea. I’m going all black with very little chrome. Just the forks, pipes, lfter, handle bar, and maybe the carb air filter cover.
Just do me a favor and get FX to put the shows back on. I was watching a couple of shows a week when they were avalable. Or just let us buy season one.
Good luck bro

The bike sounds awesome.I like the old school flames. I laid out flames like that on my first project. 1999 Kawasaki Vulcan 800.My husband bought her for me and we painted her black with red metallic flames. I had a matching seat made up and put baby 13″ apes on her. Custom exhaust, street sweeper style with no baffles, hyper charger, 21″ front wheel with spokes. She’s Japanese but we couldn’t afford a Harley. She was awesome!! I moved up to a bigger bike but gave herto my sister to start out on. Projects never end!!! Can’t wait to see the pics of yours. Good luck and safe riding.
By Krista on April 4th, 2009 at 9:58 pmThat was beautifully written Joseph. I don’t think anyone could have said it better. Just a couple years ago I was new to everything involving bikes but through the passion my fiance has for them… I can see and understand how amazing guys like you and fat bob are.
By Isabel Sinn on April 5th, 2009 at 2:26 pmI was curious as to what was up with SOA. Any show about bikes is fine with me but I keep forgettin’ when SOA airs, so I’e missed a few episodes. Used to be you only had to worry about a few favorite networks. Now everything is all over the damn place. Anyway, I like the show. I mean, it’s just entertainment after all. The only thing negative I can say is that their colors need to look “less new”. I’m hoping fo rmore dirt next season.
But what really got me were the comments posted above by Joseph. I don’t think even Sprinsgteen himself could’ve summed it up better. “Freedom over all else” indeed.
Keep up the good work. Can’t wait to see the bike.
